Isuzu challenge D-Day

Isuzu 4x4 Challenge 2010 – KirkwoodWow, what a day!! We arrived at Kirkwood bright and early around 7am and started unpacking the equipment for what would be a long, but eventful day.
50 vehicles was the cut off for entries at this years’ Kirkwood challenge and organizers raised the bar by creating challenging obstacles. Stretch, the Red Bull van also came all the way from Cape Town to keep our heads bobbing to cool tunes.
One of our camera men also got the opportunity to go on the chopper, which resulted in awesome aerial footage, which we can’t wait to get editing on. But a day like this is long, especially if you find yourself standing or walking for a 12 hour work day. Phew! We were absolutely knackered by 7pm, after the prize giving wrapped up.
It was all a new challenge for me though and one that I learnt a lot from. A girl working with 3 boys’ is not always easy, but I must say that these three men were brilliant. Ruaan got a fright or two when a vehicle got too close for comfort. Our camera men really put themselves out there to make sure we get the best footage – even if they have to make a run for it every now and again. O, did I mention Konrad got completely sandblasted by a vehicle that kicked up ground unexpectedly? It was hilarious!! He was covered in ground and dust all over his face. You should have seen his expression. How do they say?... Priceless!!
There were of course the occasional vehicle roll and tumble, but you will have to wait for the youtube clips and broadcast to see that. Well worth the wait, I promise!
Yip, the tough part starts now as 15hours of footage will have to be cut down to a one hour broadcast and also a one hour DVD. Wish me luck!!
Later,
Vicky :-)
