The Merrell Eden Duo is better known as a 24 hour multi-sport event. We combine all the disciplines of endurance racing in a one day event. Athletes take part in pairs and in relay teams.

Basic map reading skills form part of your preparation to compete in this event as all athletes must register themselves at various CP’s (Control Points) on route. The route is not market but for the first 10km of single track mountain biking on leg 2. Teams need the assistance of support crew in the MED. Assistance is limited to transition areas.

Maxxis National 4x4 Challenge – Alberton 2011

Well again we had a great trip up North, along the way the normal road works and some interesting pics of aircraft high up in the sky.

We had a pleasant stay at the Stables just a stone through away from the 4x4 course, Helen had to assist Charles with a bit of a finger problem and the next day it was much better.

Alberton was the host for this event and we were greeted to a very wet course.

The sponsors made the course look quit festive with all the banners and flags around their obstacles. All the water and mud made it a very difficult to get traction and tyres did play a big part in this event. Spectators were treated to some spectacular driving and lost of wheel spins.

Great event and the competition is getting very interesting especially in the top 10. Check back for the broadcast dates for this exciting 1hr show.

High Stakes

High Stakes was definitely a highlight for 2011. Close to Durban surrounded by hills and a scenic location privy to breath-taking vistas, High Stakes became the playground to the outrageous drivers of the Maxxis National 4x4 Championship.

For a weekend this tranquil environment was turned into an insane obstacle course filled with the thunderous roars of a horde of 4x4 vehicles that would make any mad scientist proud. Dead-drop steep declines, muddy ravines and rough inclines, it was any 4x4 enthusiasts dream. That being said if it’s tough for these machines to traverse these obstacles it’s even more so for a camera man to do it by takkie. All these thrilling ingredients combined into a delight for the spectators. Whose cheers could be heard all the way to the next town as mud shot over there head like small cannon balls as competitors rev, roll and run through these seemingly impossible obstacles. High Stakes was one not to be missed.

Wesvaal

Why 4x4? If you own one then you already know the answer. If you don’t? Its time to tune into the Maxxis National 4x4 Challenge on SuperSport. Our next show took us to Wesvaal just outside Potch. Reaching our destination through crater-like potholes and rain storms required some 4x4 skill in itself, but it’s hard to compare to the adrenaline pumped antics of the competitors. Wesvaal was an action packed event. A joy for all the spectators who were treated to impossible skill, rolls and a Maxxis girl or two. Just to keep the blood pumping between events.
